This is the online Safety Manual for the Discipline of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Newcastle, Australia. This manual was produced in response to requirements of the NSW Occupational Health and Safety Act, relevant Regulations, and the various OH&S Policies of The University of Newcastle.
The Discipline of Electrical and Computer Engineering:
is committed to providing an integrated system of safety incorporating instruction, examination and review to ensure a safe and productive laboratory environment for its staff, students and visitors.
recognises the requirements and obligations of the N. S.W. Occupational Health and Safety Act and accompanying Regulations, actively seeks to comply with them, and welcomes feedback and advice on its practices and procedures.
will strictly enforce all of the procedures set down for safe working in its laboratories, and will deny access to persons who do not comply with those procedures.
views the opportunity of working unsupervised in its laboratories as a privilege, and not as a right.
Unsupervised work without the appropriate access authorisation is not permitted in any of the Electrical Engineering laboratories. This includes the computing laboratories.
